Interesting facts about Femina Miss India 1993

• From this year the regional pageants were scrapped. Femina did hold regional selection post 1993 when necessary but the final list of contestants had very little to do with the region they came from and more with merit.

• Femina Miss India 1993 was supposed to have a very high tech flavour with computer scoring and special effects but with power outages and fluctuations, computers tripped and calculations had to be done manually.

• Judges for the finals included Dimple Kapadia, Vinod Khanna, Shobha De, Sunil Gavaskar, Rahul Bajaj, Dileep Padgaonkar, Shahab Durazi and Sharon Prabhakar. For the first time the contest had more than 5 judges.

• The event was compered by Archana Puran Singh

• Karminder Kaur was eliminated in the first round of the contest but was called back by the judges on admission of an error. She went onto to capture 2nd place.

• In the entry form for Femina Miss India 1993, the girl who place 3rd was to go to Mss Asia Pacific however after the conclusion of the event it was announced that Pooja Batra would go to Miss International.

• 1993 was also the first year preliminary titles like Miss Photogenic, Miss 10 etc were given out.

• Meyhar Bhasin wasn't happy with the outcome of the contest and felt that Namrata Shirodkar had set her up as she knew few of the judges (source Pride of India)

• Maheep Sandhu is now married to actor Sanjay Kapoor

• Rupali Ganguly and Kashmeera Shah were seen together at the Celebrity Big Boss (Big Brother) house as contestants in 2006. While they did get along well initially they're friendship soured during the course of the show.

Unlike previous years where the pageant was held in 1 day and contestants would generally arrive a day prior, Miss India 1993 started a different ball game of pageant coaching. This grooming however was quite elementary as opposed to the current situation.
