Femina Miss India 1995

Held on the 14th of January, the Femina Miss India 1995 was an exhilarating experience for those who watched it. The hosts for the evening were Dr. Kalpana Pandit and Shiva Kumar. The show began with a performance by Aditi Mangaldas and her troup. It was followed by introducing the judges, Amitabh Bachchan, Simone Tata, Renuka Choudhary, Geet Sethi, Abu Jani, Sarika, Persis Khambatta, Zeenat Aman, Vijay Amritraj and Andrew Whitehead.
Round1 saw the 18 shortlisted contestants parade in breath taking swimsuits followed by an glorious song and dance event by Sharon Prabhakar and Shiamak Davar. The 10 finalists were then announced. All the 29 contestants came skating on stage in their sports wear. Apparently Manpreet Brar's costume wasn't delivered till about 5 minutes before the event. P.C. Sorcar then kept the crowd entertained with his series of magic. The 10 finalists then came on stage. Each one of them picked a named a name of a judge to answer the questions posed by them. The top 5 then selected came on set dressed in beautiful evening gowns to answer the common question." All Major changes has come through conflict, yet we strive for peace. If you were given a choice what would you rather have, peace and no change or conflict and change and why? "
While the judges scores were being added, the triumphant duo of Sushmita Sen and Aishwarya Rai who conquered the universe and the world with their beauty and intelligence drove out from opposite ends of the set in vintage cars - Sushmita Sen in a metal blue-green Buick convertible, Aishwarya Rai in a silver Mercedes convertible. The cars crossed each other making it to the opposite side of the stadium stopping at the foot of the stage. Thunderous applause broke free and resounded periodically-stopping only to let the two international winners speak. It was now time to place the winners where they belonged: under their Femina Miss India 1995 crowns and behind their sashes. The roll call of honor began, Femina Miss India Asia-Pacific: Ruchi Malhotra, Femina Miss India-World: Preeti Mankotia and (after a long pause here) Femina Miss India Universe: Manpreet Brar. Shweta Menon who stood fourth at the Miss India 1994 cam onstage to crown Ruchi as Francesca Hart, Femina Miss India III was not able to be present.
