Interesting tidbits about Femina Miss India 1996

• Femina Miss India 1996 was held on January 13th 2006

• The song Made in India by Alisha Chinnai was the opening number for the contest

• In Round 1 the contestants walked to the podium and posed in navy blue swimsuits while a video showcased her introducing herself to the audience. As Round 1 ended Karla Singh swathed in white and ushered in a fashion show featuring the creationgs of designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla.

• The Indian Costume round for an opportunity for undiscovered designers to showcase their talent. Designer Rehane Yavat Dhala of Madras walked away with the prize for his creation worn by Jacqueline Varghese

• In Round 2, the selected Top 9 based on Round 1 scores fielded question by the judges. This was followed by an experimental dance sequence choreographed by Veenapani Chawla. The sub title winners were then crowned.

• Pooja Kumar, Miss India USA was the guest star of the evening

• For the Final Round Question the Top 5 were asked the same question" The World is a stage, what is your role in it?"

• Miss World 1994 Aishwarya Rai came on stage to honour Manpreet Brar and Ruchi Malhotra for their 1st Runner Up placements in the Miss Universe 1995 and Miss Asia Pacific 1995 pageants respectively

• Shonali Rosario who is now a well established model lost the Miss India-Asia Pacific title to Mini Menon by a mere 0.01 difference. Simi Garewal's low score of 6.3 to Shonali in the final round made all the difference. Refer to score card below

• Fleur Xavier who later represented India at the Miss International 1995 pageant and is now a successful model ranked # 10 in the preliminaries and unfortunately there was only a Top 9 unlike some recent years where a Top 10 is selected.

• Annie Thomas who failed to place this year and was ranked 16th in the first round competed again in 1998 and won the Femina Miss India World 1998 title.

• Sandhya Chibb was a runner up at Gladrags Mega Model 1995 and won Femina Miss India 1996. The winner of Gladrags Mega Model 1995 Lara Dutta went onto win Femina Miss India 2000.
